There are a number of great initiatives to report on this month. The Pender Island Chamber of Commerce will host a "Lunch and Learn" networking event on June 12th at 12:30 at the Royal Canadian Legion. The topic, "Social Media - All You Need to Know" will be presented by Director of Hootsuite, Jamie Stein and Noel Pullen, (Chamber Director Leigh Pullen's son). Hootsuite has developed a platform that lets businesses and individuals monitor and manage social media interactions across some 35 different social networks. It's a great opportunity to learn some new skills and to network with other Pender business people.
This is our first "Lunch and Learn" and we hope to have many more and are open to your ideas and suggestions. The Chamber wants to become more inclusive of ALL businesses, organizations, contractors, artists etc. on Pender. We are better together!
More details of how you can register for this event will be forthcoming. Members will receive an e-mail and everyone, please check the Pender Island Facebook page, the website calendar or next month's Pender Post for updates.
By the time of this publication, we expect that the new Chamber of Commerce website will be online. This website is mobile device friendly and will be a great resource for Pender residents and visitors alike, with links not just to chamber members but also to other important organizations and groups. We think Katja at Virtual Wave Media has done a fabulous job! We hope you will check it out and give us your feedback.
The Executive has undertaken a revamping of the membership fees and benefits, and we're already getting new membership requests as a result. The work is ongoing and we'll pass along details as they are finalized. Contact us, if you're interested in becoming a member.
The Chamber of Commerce Board at the Driftwood will undergo a facelift very shortly. Marty Swan is spearheading this initiative and Anna Katsioris will be responsible for allocating spaces and for upkeep.
Melody Pender had joined us as administrative assistant upon the retirement from the Position by Carol Budnyk. Welocme Melody! And thank you Carol for your past contributions.
