It is a very exciting time to be a part of the Chamber. We are very busy with a variety of upcoming projects. One that you may have noticed around the Driftwood is the new Visitor Info Center located beside the flower shop. Please stop in and ask a question, pick up some information, get directions, and be treated to some genuine Islander hospitality. The center will be stocked with information on trades, accommodations, local businesses, maps and more. We’d like to say a big THANK YOU to Marty Swan of Pender Island Pharmacy for all his extra hard work in putting the Visitor Centre together. From working on the service counter to painting and hanging the wall rack, thank you. If you would like the opportunity to have your brochures and/or cards in the Visitor Centre and you are not already signed up for the racking program contact Melody. We are open for Islanders and visitors too. The hours of the Visitor Centre are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am to 4pm and hopefully Saturdays for a few hours. We will look at extended hours in the summer based the amount of volunteers we are able to recruit. If you like to work with people and love to spread the great news about Pender Island happenings to others, consider becoming a volunteer and contact Melody at 250-99-6371 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Coming up this month the Chamber will be sponsoring a Food Safe Course at the Community Hall on June 12 from 9-5 and the cost is $60 per person. There is a maximum of 20 people so please don’t hesitate to register if you’re interested. Melody Pender will be taking registrations at the Visitor Centre, by email or phone.
We are excited to also be offering WorldHost worshops. WorldHost Training Services was launched as the SuperHost® program in 1985, offering customer service training for EXPO '86 in B.C., Canada. Since then, the program has expanded, evolved and rebranded to become the standard for customer service excellence in B.C., as well as an internationally recognized leader in training for the tourism industry. We will be offering the Fundamentals workshop very soon so watch our FACEBOOK page for more details!
Over the last few weeks we have had feature ads and articles printed for the Southern Gulf Islands in the Times Colonist, the Georgia Straight and this month’s BC Ferries onBoard Magazine (check it out next time you are on the ferry!!
