Amplify Her: Pender Film Screening & After-Party

Saturday, April 27, 2019 - 7:00pm to Sunday, April 28, 2019 - 1:00am

We are pleased to be bringing you the Pender Premier of the Documentary & Animated Comic Amplify Her. Amplify Her showcases the rise of women in electronic music. Featuring AppleCat, WALA, CloZee, Lux Moderna, A Hundred Drums, Blondtron, and Kytami.

Film Feature and Pender New Person Mya Ceilidh Wilson AKA AppleCat will be in attendance to introduce the film and facilitate a Q & A discussion afterward. Post-screening we will move into the after dance party featuring a performance from AppleCat and more artists TBA

This visually dynamic film weaves animated motion comics created by the characters to offer intimate access into the colourful worlds of emerging female artists. Rather than ask the expected: “why aren’t there more women in this male-dominated scene?”, we wonder: “what is unique about feminine expression and how might we all benefit when it flourishes?”

Blondtron is an outspoken, openly sexual music producer who crafted her latest track, ‘Set Your Pussy Free’ as an anthem for empowering women. Yet as she transitions into an entrepreneur launching her own tech company, her raunchy antics prevent her from being taken seriously.

AppleCat is a sharp-witted DJ with heart, struggling to make ends meet – raising her young daughter by day and occasionally gigging as an online ‘camgirl’ at night. Her gift lies in creating soundscapes that allow others to release their sexual shame, yet to truly succeed, she must first forgive herself.

On the heels of beating a mysterious decade-long illness, Lux Moderna channels her healing mantras into her music, creating spaces of shamanic transformation on the dance floor. Yet her biggest challenge awaits her: stepping out from behind the decks and performing as a center-stage priestess.

Amplify HER explores these rising stars and more as they come-of-age amidst the emerging cultural renaissance of the feminine.

This event is all ages, although the film is rated PG13 due to curse words and empowered ladies.

"A Revolution without dancing is not a Revolution worth having"

Internationally acclaimed musician, and vocalist; AppleCat was raised on the WestCoast of Canada, specializing in Deep Dubstep, Fairytale Bass, Trap, and Worldbeat. On the dancefloor, she creates a shared underworld dance - stating that her intention is to " have us all come out the other side moved in some way - the kind of movement that is far beyond solely somatic."

Poetry and grime, with live mashup & reworks, AppleCat blends cinematic sound, with primal bass. This cosmic booty bouncing, dubwitch set's bend the perception of "genre" exemplifying her unparalleled "je ne sais quoi.”

AppleCat is also the focus of a feature documentary about women in electronic music ‘Amplify Her’, released worldwide in 2017.

Along with performing internationally including venues/festivals: Burning Man, Rifflandia, Enchanted Forest Gathering, Connect Festival, Halifax Pop Explosion, and Tall Tree Festival she has also shared a stage with Truth, Seven Lions, Zeds Dead, David Starfire, Emancipator, PhuturePrimitive, Bluetech, Clozee, Paper Diamond, The Polish Ambassador, A Tribe Called Red, Tipper, Govinda, Random Rab, An-Ten-Nae and many more
