When Katie Marti makes music, every ear in the room perks up. Her songs are stripped down and each word, each lyric, is essential. You feel what she feels, you see what she sees, and you leave feeling like you've made a new friend. Her unique sound echoes early influences like Margot Timmins, Bonnie Raitt, Natalie Merchant and Rose Cousins, but while Katie gives a sonic nod to her past, she looks squarely to a future bright with promise. With an EP (2016), a single (2017), and a recent cross-country tour tucked under her belt, she's set to head into the studio in early 2019 to record her first full-length album with Zak Cohen at Woodshop Recording Studios in Duncan, BC. Snuggle up and stay tuned...
A Million Dollars in Pennies
(amilliondollarsinpennies.bandcamp.com)
Mike and Stephanie Shaver are a harmony-driven duo who offer a fresh take on traditional acoustic folk music. Their sound is at once familiar and a precious new find, like thrift store gold. Together, they have been weaving tales and singing songs since 2012, traveling the country by rail, sea, sky, and even bicycle to share stages with artists such as Steve Brockley, The Breakmen, Corin Raymond and Joel Plaskett. After an extended leave of absence, they're about to go into the studio to record their second album with Corwin Fox in Cumberland, BC, for which they literally and figuratively cannot wait.
